You just got a Goldendoodle puppy (or are about to get one) and you need to choose just the right puppy name. You’ve come to the right place! Here you’ll find over 447-way cool names for Goldendoodles! (Plus, some extras)
How to Choose a Name for Your Goldendoodle
Finding the best name for your new dog or puppy can be challenging and may not happen overnight! Take some time viewing this extensive list of unique and unusual names and narrow it down to a few you like best.
Since you’ll be attaching the name to your puppy forever make it a name you enjoy saying and that you really like. Choose a one or two syllable name if possible. This will make it easier for your pet to understand when you are calling his or her name. Keep in mind you may be asked to spell the dog’s name when going to the vet or visiting family members.
It’s okay to pick a name and try it out with your dog for a few days. Fortunately, dogs don’t have the same connection to a name like we do. It’s only a matter of training him to respond to a new name. If you are changing an older dog’s name remember to use positive reinforcements such as belly rubs, treats, and games of fetch to help her learn her new name. Be happy and excited when saying her new name as dogs react to our voice inflection.
Avoid a name that is similar to a command. For example, the name “Dottie” sounds like the command, “Potty”. Or squeal sounds like heel – just kidding!
It’s also best to avoid names that may be embarrassing or offensive. These include slang names, generally offensive names, insults, or any names containing curse words.
Tips For Naming Your Goldendoodle Puppy Dog
Although it’s tempting to name your dog a popular dog name it can cause confusion at the vet’s office, dog park, or other public places. Some of the most popular dog names include Luna, Bella, Charlie, Bailey, Lucy, Cooper, Max, Daisy, and Buddy. It’s best to avoid these names unless you’re really attached to one of them.
What is a Goldendoodle?
As discussed in another article on this website, “What is a Goldendoodle?” the Goldendoodle is the offspring of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle are considered highly intelligent, friendly dogs. The goldendoodle is a trainable, kind, outgoing dog that doesn’t drool and is promoted as hypoallergenic. These traits make them an excellent family pet and they make great companions for people with disabilities. The goldendoodle is quickly becoming a very popular dog breed across the United States.
Here’s a closer look at these two popular breeds:
The Golden Retriever – These wonderful, affectionate, loyal dogs are actually the “Comfort Dogs” of the Lutheran Church Charities of Northbrook Illinois. Their job is to combat grief. They are very calm, kind and loving and seem to feel your pain. The American Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1925. Amazingly the Golden Retriever has been in the top 10 most popular breeds since 1976 according to the AKC. Also, they are ranked the 4th smartest dog in the world according to DR Stanley Coren’s book, ‘The Intelligence of Dogs’. The drawback of Golden Retrievers is that they tend to shed a lot! That’s the benefit of breeding with a Poodle.
The Poodle – These highly intelligent dogs are ranked the 2nd smartest dog breed in the world after the Border Collie according to Dr. Coren’s book. They are extremely low shedding and are considered hypoallergenic. Poodles are family oriented like the Golden Retriever but they can be very energetic and can be a bit high strung. They are consistently ranked in the top 10 most popular dogs in the United States according the American Kennel Club.
The end result of breeding a Golden Retriever with a Poodle is to get a very intelligent, low shedding, lovable family pet.
